No more radioactivity or x-ray, just safe measurement.

The Dolphin M-Series uses a patent-pending software-driven electromagnetic process to continuously measure precisely and report metallic strip thickness in the rolling mill production environment. It provides thickness data in either analog or digital format for thickness control systems and statistical process control.

No other gauge does this.

The gauge automatically adapts to the actual coil being measured, resulting in a more direct measurement than obtained using a product magazine or sample alloys. No other gauge, except a contact gauge, can do this.

Alloy-Intelligent

tm

 and non-contact.

The Dolphin M-Series lets you measure the thickness of all metals — ferrous, non-ferrous and bonded — using one gauge. It’s completely Alloy-Intelligent tm  and can easily measure bonded metals with different alloys on the top and bottom. You even have the option of adding strip-profiling capabilities with positioning control.

Sample management.

The Dolphin M-Series has a unique self-calibrating feature: the operating sequence is programmable. As a factory default setting, each time the C-frame comes off of the strip a metal calibrating measurement standard (CMS) automatically moves out of its housing in the upper arm of the C-frame and into position between the sensors on the C-frame. Once in position, the Dolphin M-Series software automatically self-calibrates the gauge. When this is complete, the CMS retracts into the upper arm of the C-frame. The CMS is ground to one millionth of an inch accuracy and has its own NIST certificate, thereby providing NIST traceability to the Dolphin M-Series gauge self-calibration.

Designed for maximum performance.

C-frames are available in standard sizes to meet varying strip widths. The Dolphin M-Series C-frame assembly includes a track and drive system for the transport of the C-frame, the necessary cables for inter-connection, and a cable handling system. The C-frame is designed to adapt to pre-existing track and drive systems where a gauge is being replaced. The electronics and communication interface (either PLCor PC) is housed in an enclosure that can be mounted remotely from the C-frame. Requiring no moving parts or power supply, the advanced design of the Dolphin M-Series gauge, C-frame and electronics makes it extremely reliable and virtually maintenance free.

Now is the time to really control product thickness.

The Dolphin M-Series is easily controlled from the operator station. A terminal lets the operator enter data and monitor the gauge. A single screen displays target thickness, deviation, data on the gauge operation, and gauge status. Custom screens are available upon request.
